Blend Origin Story

Ozark Black is our darkest expression within the Doyenne program, built for drinkers who want weight, richness, and unmistakable roast development without giving up sweetness. We push the roast far enough to create a dense, viscous cup with pronounced caramelization and roast character, while stopping short of the point where bitterness or carbon begins to dominate. The goal is intensity with balance. The coffees we source for Ozark Black are selected specifically for their body, sweetness, and ability to support this level of development. Throughout the sourcing process, we taste these coffees repeatedly, from initial selection through production, so we understand how each component will behave in the blend and how its structure will translate through a darker roast.

As with the rest of the Doyenne program, Ozark Black is built entirely from female-produced coffees and women-led projects. We primarily work in Central and South America, sourcing from countries such as Honduras, Guatemala, Peru, and Colombia. Within those origins, we look for coffees with the depth and density necessary to create the profile we want while continuing to support greater visibility, stability, and equity for women throughout the coffee supply chain.

In the cup, Ozark Black is intentionally heavy and deeply sweet. Expect a full, coating body with layers of molasses, caramelized sugar, dark chocolate, and other sugar-browning notes that become more pronounced through roast development. Rather than chasing acidity or delicacy, this coffee is centered around texture, depth, and sustained sweetness. Designed to perform exceptionally well as both filter coffee and espresso, Ozark Black is our most developed interpretation of specialty coffee: bold, familiar, and substantial, but still grounded in carefully sourced coffee, rigorous quality control, and a clear sensory intention.

Financial Transparency

We as a company believe that transparency is unbelievably important. The point of listing things below is not to justify what we charge or what we profit, but to give a realistic snapshot of the industry and how specialty coffee can be different than other commodity industries.

Green Cost $5.15
What we paid
The subject of paying for green coffee is inherently complicated. While the amount paid is very important, the payment terms and type of contract negotiated matter just as much. We...

Roast Profile

We roast to tight tolerances, with no more than 1° deviation from target temperatures. During the roast, we keep an especially close eye on rate of rise (RoR)- or the rate at which the bean temperature is increasing.

Third-Party Testing

We believe that quality is more than just flavor— it's trust, integrity, and a relentless pursuit of excellence. That's why we take extra steps to ensure that every cup of coffee you brew meets the highest standards of purity and safety.

Mold-Free Mycotoxins

We recently subjected our coffees to rigorous third-party testing for mold and the mycotoxins they can produce—harmful compounds that may develop when certain molds grow on coffee beans. The results couldn't be clearer: our coffee is 100% mold-free.
